Wale
(Adewale Ogungbemi Balogun)

Wale is one of three Orange characters. He was born and brought up in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, where he comes from. Wale is 32. He is the first son of his family, living in the struggle of his humble background and all the opportunities that the family’s financial background has deprived him of. He blames his father for not making money which denied them the traditional title but vowed that he would make money and go back to be coroneted as the true Alaafin of Oyo. He is not an intellectual but finished secondary school and can speak English, but he comfortably communicates in Pidgin English and Yoruba. Wale moved to Lagos to hustle, where he met Ovie, with who he later lived. As a Yoruba man, his favourite food is Amala and Gbegiri, and he doesn’t mind eating them 4 times a day. Despite being a terrible cook, Wale loves to eat a lot. We catch him bragging to Ovie about being a skilful chef, cooking for himself and his family, but he only messes up everything when asked to cook. His potbelly and overweight body are easily noticeable features of him, and according to him, they are signs of a wealthy or accomplished man.

More About Wale

Wale is short-tempered, manipulative, and overbearing too. He tries to control every situation and take charge of everything, demanding Ovie’s respect and trying to outsmart him. This attitude causes conflict between them because Ovie doesn’t like being bossed around. On one of his casual strolls after work, he saw Chi-Chi, and since then, she has become the object of his love interest. His interest in Chi-Chi is limited by a lack of adequate funds; he also has to deal with Ovie’s crush on Chi-Chi and his constant fights with him over her.

We consider him fashionable, although he is mostly casually dressed in either a singlet or jersey with shorts because of the hot weather or the Iro and Buba for Yoruba worn to special occasions. Wale believes that clothes should do more than cover your body, and they should also show your style and personality, but his ability to dress more stylishly is limited by money. Fashion is for the rich, and so he keeps daydreaming of when he will make enough money, so he can dress the way he really wants. Some of his hobbies include watching football, creating fun moments, dancing with friends, and cooking. He firmly believes that he will make it in life and change the family situation.
