Ovie can be considered to be Wale’s antagonist. A smart Warri guy, Ovie is 28. He was born and brought up in Warri, a privilege he believes attributes to him being street smart. His parents have three children, and he is the last; he had to leave home because his father vowed not to sponsor his dream of becoming a musician, but Ovie is unwary of his career decision, so he moves out of his parent’s house and goes to live with Wale in Lawanson Lagos. Living in Lagos can be interesting, the wildlife, the expensive standard of living, the rough road movement, pepper stew from mama put pots, long bank queues, the hot weather, the list is quite long; according to Ovie, growing and surviving in Lagos makes him believe he can survive anywhere else. Although he is interested in the Lagos life activities, he is currently broke, he knows he cannot afford some of them and keeps them on his wish list. We consider Ovie to be a cheerful and optimistic person, he faces challenges every day, but he would instead look on the bright side of life than worry about things he cannot control.
“Omo Eko ni mi,” “Omo Yoruba ni mi, ma fi mi se iyaje” he would say to confuse Yoruba’s who try to take advantage of him. He is fortunate to speak pidgin, Ijaw, and Urhobo fluently with unpolished English, although he wishes he could speak English better, especially when he wants to impress Chi-Chi. He would always switch to Urhobo whenever he was on an important call with any member of his family. This act gets Wale upset because Ovie always understands what he says on the phone, so he would have to find where to hide to take calls and speak in very low tones. He is always in conflict with Wale, and the constant fight between the duo always looks like there is an unresolved issue between the both of them. Despite the incessant fights, Ovie still finds ways of making the house lively and bearable for Wale.
As an aspiring music artist, he is always seeking opportunities to showcase his talents, and this makes him friendlier with people as he keeps in mind that nobody knows tomorrow and help can come from anyone at all. Sometimes, he keeps to himself, and it makes Wale concerned because Ovie is a loudmouth and a chatterbox, always looking for someone to say something to. The best moment of each day is when he talks to Chi-Chi for long hours, an activity that provokes Wale.
